I don't have time for a long post, but here's a picture of my cute class last week at chapel. It was our turn to teach the lesson and our topic was how Noah obeyed God, and was protected through the flood.
{such a fun topic}
ps. the kids without masks were part of Noah's family, and the girl in the front middle forgot and wore her uniform. bum deal!
We made the masks, beaks, beard, etc. in class. It was fun, funny, chaotic, and probably one of our must fun days in class so far. We talked about how the animals knew to come to the ark, how they got there, and why they didn't eat each other on the ark. . .gotta love grade 1 questions! :]
For the actual chapel, we played a kid friendly video [ our audience ranged from 3-8 ] about the story, and then my kids got to re-enact the story as the other classes helped retell it. My kids were as well behaved as kids can be when they have animal masks on and are allowed to hop and roar down the middle aisle ;]
Of course the other classes who were watching thought it was hilarious, which only fueled the fire. As the story was retold, the characters got to come down the middle aisle [ as their animal would ] and get "on" the boat [ by walking through it ] until Noah, his family, and all the animals were safe "inside". Try keeping 18 kids quiet behind a paper ark who all have masks on! BUT, everybody had fun, there was great interaction in retelling the story, and they all learned a lesson of God's faithfulness, and the importance of obedience. Putting this small "production" on, made me really appreciate all the time and effort my old Children's Ministry teacher [ Lori Mueller ] put in to our church productions to make them run, and with WAY more kids involved! Props to you Lori! I don't know how you did it! :]
I just got asked today if we would do it again for the intermediate chapel next wednesday [ grades 3-6 ]
Here we go again!
Katie, this is precious! We're learning about Noah's Ark next week and I might steal this idea... :)
ReplyDeleteIt really was fun! Our second "performance" to the older kids was even better than the first, so I was encouraged :) They definitely knew the story well by the end!
