This has always been one of my “go-to” verses. It is an incredible truth, prefaced by an encouraging prayer (directed towards the Ephesians). I was going to write a brief summary of why I like the whole passage but decided I’m just going to put it all here. It’s too good to summarize:
14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be GLORY in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
[Back to verse 20] “to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine." I have always believed this to be true, but lately it has been so evident. I was never the little girl with a perfect fairytale story written in my head, just waiting for it to come true -- I was too much of a tomboy for that (at least that’s how I felt). But all that time, God had been writing my story in a way I could have never imagined. . .or asked for. I’m feeling as if I’m truly a part of that grand story. It hasn’t always been filled with happy chapters. There have been painful times. But God knows. All of this to say -- HE knew all along that Chris and I would meet. HE knew that we would both be teachers. HE knew that we would be going to Indonesia. HE knew. As Chris and I get married, our stories will come together, and our adventure will begin. We both feel incredibly blessed by the way God is providing for us. Though it’s easy to [feel] the “immeasurably more” now, I pray that in all times, we will live by the truth of this passage. To HIM be the glory.
