Where to begin?

"Are you kidding me?" Unfortunately, we've found ourselves saying that quite a few times today. Let's start out with. . .WE ARE STILL HERE (well, in the San Fran Airport). Our 1 hr layover, turned into a one day over.

Let's start from the beginning:

- I get randomly chosen for security check (I'm on a roll. . .3 airport visits in a row). Good news though. . .the lady saw that I was wearing a "Corban" shirt, and while we didn't talk about similar acquaintances  (as you'd usually do when this happens) she asked where we were headed. She then started telling me to "Trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding" because that is one thing I have control over when heading into uncertainty. I smiled and said, "Proverbs 3:5". As soon as I said that she wished us luck and never actually checked me. Just thought I'd share that to begin, because it has been just the reminder we've needed!

- We made it to our terminal, and found out our flight was going to be 2 hours late. . .meaning that we'd barely make our connecting flight to Hong Kong! Chris talked to the people at the desk, and got our flight switched, making our next one a direct flight to Singapore, leaving an hour later than the other one so we could make it.

- We got on the plane, and still didn’t leave for another 30 min. because a battery needed to be replaced, which forced them to fill out paperwork before we could leave. . .really?! ahhh!

- We make it into the air, and were just about to land in SF (with about 20 minutes to catch our next flight at this point, and we're getting a little nervous!) when the pilot announced that we would be taking a scenic detour over San Francisco. . . Another plane had to make an emergency medical landing and needed our runway. Not good.

- We prayed that our second flight would be as delayed as the first, because we were already late by the time we landed. We split up so Chris could get our bags, while I tried to go ahead and figure out if we could still make our flight. Our flight was no longer through United Airlines, so we had to RUN to the international-only wing. Not to mention, the extended handle on my carry-on bag broke as we were dashing down a moving escalator! We got there just in time to see our plane rolling away to take off :[  Needless to say we were both very sweaty, and not very happy.

That's it, with the black tail going behind the building

Now, we're sitting outside of the airport security section (where we've been since 3:00) waiting to get our boarding passes, at a ticket station that doesn't open until 9:00. All of the food is conveniently located on the other side of security. . .bummer for us! We’ve occupied our time by watching “Cars”, doing cartwheels (me), and playing NBA Jam (Chris on his ipod touch).

- Our flight to Singapore leaves at 1:20 am. and will be 18 hours long (OH MY!).  We’ve contacted our people in Jakarta. . .and while we won’t get to stay “tonight” in Singapore, we will get there tomorrow morning and have to stay the next night there because visa applications end at 12:00 pm, and we arrive at 11:40. . .bummer again. However, we’ve only heard GREAT things about the city of Singapore, so we hope to take advantage of our extra time there (if we can keep our eyes open!).

- Thanks to everyone who has been praying over our journey! We know God has a plan and a reason for us missing our connecting flight, and are thankful that we can “lean not on our own understanding” :] One last prayer request: that our checked on bags end up in the same place as us!
Oh wait, second prayer request: that we get to sit together on the lovely 18 hr flight, which is not guaranteed when it's booked the day of :[

  1. Wow Chris and Katie!!! We will be praying as you two adventure together in other countries before you get to Indonesia. God has a plan for you two and continue to trust in the Lord during this time. Enjoy this adventure and know God is walking ahead of you two during this time. =) I will be praying for peace, comfort, and your attitudes during this time as it can be a stressful time missing flights and being in limbo. Take care.
